When you buy a home you pay more than the price on the offer. Transfer duty is paid to SARS on a sliding scale, and the first R1 210 000 of the value is not taxed.
On top of duty there are the transferring attorney's fees, the Deeds Office registration fee and, if you take a bond, the bond attorney's fees and bond registration costs.
